City Block
The emerging City Block series will present images from four streets and interconnecting laneways in Toronto. The block is formed by Dovercourt Road to west, Queen Street West to the south, Ossington Avenue to the east and Dundas Street West to the North. These streets were chosen as a clearly delineated section of the Little Portugal neighbourhood that has been my home since the early 1990s.
The images in the City Block series also reflect the evolution of my practice over a seven-year period starting in 2015. Initially, I used my phone to capture images that caught my attention while walking my dog Freddie around the block. In 2018, I started experimenting with cameras I inherited from my father. After my dog passed, I continued my “block walks” with my cameras for company. While the scope of my practice expanded, I never stopped capturing my city block.
